Alloy 309LMo SAW and Flux refers to a specific type of stainless steel welding wire and its matching flux, primarily used in Submerged Arc Welding (SAW) for tough applications. Alloy 309LMo is a high-alloy austenitic stainless steel that features chromium, nickel, and an extra dose of molybdenum, giving it excellent corrosion resistance, particularly in environments where oxidation and chemical attacks are a concern. It’s perfect for welding different metals together, like stainless steel to carbon steel, and for adding a corrosion-resistant stainless layer on carbon steel.
The typical chemical makeup of Alloy 309LMo welding wire includes 23.0–25.0% chromium, 12.0–14.0% nickel, and 2.0–3.0% molybdenum, along with a low carbon content (maximum 0.03%) and trace amounts of manganese, silicon, phosphorus, and sulfur. The weld metal boasts impressive mechanical properties, with tensile strength exceeding 550 MPa, yield strength of at least 350 MPa, elongation over 30%, and remarkable impact toughness, even in colder temperatures.

When selecting Stainless Steel Unions, consider factors like material grade, pressure ratings, size compatibility, corrosion resistance, and the specific application environment to ensure optimal performance and durability.
Stainless Steel Unions are available in various configurations, including threaded, butt-weld, socket-weld, and flanged unions, offering different connection types to suit diverse industrial applications and pressure requirements.
When using Alloy 309LMo for SAW, it’s best to go with neutral or slightly basic fluxes to maintain low carbon content and ensure corrosion resistance. Popular options include F7A or F7P-class fluxes according to EN ISO 14174. These fluxes provide a smooth bead appearance, minimal slag residue, and good resistance to porosity. You’ll find applications in cladding pressure vessels, reactor components, furnace parts, and joining dissimilar metals in petrochemical and chemical processing equipment.
