Stainless Steel 440C is an iron-based high-carbon, high-chromium martensitic stainless steel with about 16–18% chromium and 0.95–1.20% carbon, with minimal manganese and molybdenum content. This type of composition enables the material to be heat-treated to obtain hardness levels of up to 60 HRC, hence being one of the hardest stainless steels in existence. 440C bolts feature high wear resistance, high tensile strength, and moderate corrosion resistance. Though not ideal for highly corrosive conditions, they work effectively in abrasive, high-stress applications and resist sharpness loss, structural weakening, and mechanical instability in extreme conditions.
