Stainless Steel 442 is a ferritic stainless steel alloy consisting mostly of around 18–23% chromium and trace levels of molybdenum (~1%) and carbon (<0.2%). This alloy confers superior resistance to scaling, heat, and oxidation, especially at temperatures up to 1100°C. Stainless Steel 442 nuts have good tensile strength, average ductility, and high hardness, thus being suitable for mechanical stress as well as for high temperatures. Although less resistant to corrosion compared to austenitic grades, they work consistently in hot conditions, conferring superior durability and less deformation due to thermal cycling or extended exposure to industrial heat conditions.
