17-4 PH stainless steel consists of approximately 15–17.5% chromium, 3–5% nickel, 3–5% copper, and small amounts of elements such as niobium. It acquires strength by going through a solution treatment followed by aging, which gives tensile strength of up to 1200 MPa and yield strength in the order of 1100 MPa. It has a hardness of up to HRC 40–45, with elongation of 8–10%. Its mechanical properties can be varied by aging at various temperatures (e.g., H900, H1150), and thus it offers design flexibility. Corrosion resistance is usually good in mild to moderate conditions, similar to conventional austenitic stainless steels.
