The Stainless Steel 904L pipes consist of a highly alloyed austenitic stainless steel with around 23–28% chromium, 19–23% nickel, 4–5% molybdenum, and 1–2% copper. This combination is special and serves to give high resistance against acid-chloride environments, pitting, and crevice corrosion. The mechanical properties are tensile strength 520 MPa, yield strength 220 MPa, and elongation of approximately 40% at 50 mm. 904L has good formability, weldability, and high stress corrosion cracking resistance. All these characteristics make the pipes suited for challenging conditions where mechanical integrity and anticorrosion properties are essential.
