Andre Stainless produces and distributes AWS Class E309/309L-16 Electrodes to weld dissimilar metal and overlay jobs. These low-carbon electrodes are best used when there is greater corrosion resistance and intergranular protection needed. Founded in Pulau Ujong, Andre Stainless assists industries across Singapore with reliable welding solutions and prompt supply. The E309/309L-16 electrodes have good arc stability, low spatter, and consistent mechanical properties. They‘re the best choice for structural and pressure welding where stainless interacts with carbon steel or where a buffer layer is desired prior to applying higher-alloy overlays.
With 23–25% chromium and 12–14% nickel content and less carbon (<0.04%), these electrodes provide improved resistance to intergranular corrosion. Tensile strength is more than 580 MPa with elongation of 30% and impact toughness even at sub-zero temperatures. These rods weld well with AC or DC current and are highly resistant to cracking. Their microstructure provides good hot strength and toughness under thermal cycling. The low carbon content is useful in situations susceptible to sensitization by repeated heat and cool cycles.

These electrodes are ideal for welding Type 309L stainless steels and butt-welding dissimilar metals like stainless to carbon or low-alloy steels. They find extensive applications in cladding jobs on boiler tubes, tanks, and reactor vessels. E309/309L-16 is also ideal for chemical and food processing equipment where corrosion and stress from heat are primary issues. Moreover, they act as a buffer layer prior to overlaying additional corrosion-resistant alloys for effective weld metal dilution control. They are preferred in piping, fabrication, and pressure vessel repair.
