Stainless Steel 305 Bars are austenitic stainless low work-hardening bars suitable for severe cold-forming and deep drawing applications. Provided by Andre Stainless in Pulau Ujong, Singapore, SS 305 has good corrosion resistance, non-magnetic behavior, and better ductility than other 300-series alloys. Its higher nickel content enhances its corrosion resistance in organic acids and oxidizing substances. Depending on industrial requirements, the alloy is supplied in cold-drawn, annealed, or centerless ground form. Best for parts that need good surface finishes and high forming capability, 305 bars are used in electronic hardware, food processing, medical instruments, and architectural hardware.
SS 305 has ~17–19% chromium, ~10.5–13% nickel, ≤0.12% carbon, and small amounts of manganese, phosphorus, and sulfur. Its higher nickel content minimizes work-hardening during forming operations. In the annealed state, characteristic tensile strength ~540 MPa, yield strength ~200 MPa, and elongation ~45%. The alloy is exceptionally ductile and can be formed into complex shapes with minimal cracking. It is practically non-magnetic in all states and possesses good corrosion resistance in mild conditions. Hardening is not done by heat treatment but by cold work wherever properties need to be improved.
