Stainless Steel 317 Bars are molybdenum-containing austenitic stainless steel bars that provide excellent corrosion resistance in highly aggressive environments. Supplied by Andre Stainless in Pulau Ujong, Singapore, these bars provide superior pitting and crevice corrosion resistance over SS 316 due to higher molybdenum content. SS 317 bars provide excellent strength, weldability, and resistance to creep, particularly in chemical process environments involving chlorides, sulfates, and acidic solutions. Used extensively in the pulp & paper, pharmaceutical, and marine industries, 317 bars are produced to ASTM A276 and A479 specifications and available in annealed or cold-drawn states.
SS 317 has ~18–20% chromium, ~11–15% nickel, ~3–4% molybdenum, ≤0.08% carbon, and trace amounts of manganese and silicon. It has tensile strength of ~515 MPa, yield strength ~205 MPa, elongation ~35%, and Brinell hardness ~150. The higher molybdenum enhances corrosion resistance to localized attack (pitting and crevice) and chemical attack by sulfuric, acetic, and citric acids. It is not magnetic in the annealed condition and has mechanical stability at moderately high temperatures. SS 317 also shows good formability and welding behavior and is thus highly appropriate for corrosive processing and marine conditions.

Stainless Steel 317 Flat Bars are available in widths ranging from 10mm to 300mm and thicknesses from 3mm to 50mm. These bars excel in resisting corrosion and are used in structural applications exposed to harsh chemicals.
Stainless Steel 317 Square Bars, offered in sizes from 10mm to 100mm, provide excellent resistance to corrosion in aggressive environments. They are used in various structural and manufacturing applications requiring robust material properties.
Stainless Steel 317 Rectangular Bars come in dimensions like 20mm x 10mm to 150mm x 50mm. They are preferred for applications needing high strength and resistance to corrosive substances, such as heat exchangers.
Corrosion-resistant Stainless Steel 317 Hexagonal Bars, available in sizes from 10mm to 100mm across flats, offer excellent performance in corrosive environments. They are used in industries where both strength and corrosion resistance are critical.
Stainless Steel 317 T-Bars are typically available in sizes like 10mm x 10mm to 100mm x 100mm. These bars provide high resistance to corrosion and are used in structural supports and frameworks exposed to aggressive conditions.
Stainless Steel 317 Bars have extensive application in chemical and petrochemical industries, particularly in equipment that is exposed to chlorinated solvents, sulfuric acid, and severe process fluids. Applications are evaporators, condensers, heat exchangers, and reactor vessels. The pulp and paper industry utilizes 317 for bleach towers, digesters, and piping. It is also utilized in flue gas scrubbers, marine exhaust systems, and pollution control devices. SS 317 is preferred by the manufacturers of pharmaceuticals for clean-in-place equipment because of its better corrosion resistance. Its good performance in acidic conditions makes it suitable for tanks, pumps, valves, and pressure-containing components.
