Stainless Steel 405 Bars are a ferritic stainless steel alloy with good resistance to oxidation and fair corrosion at high temperatures. Supplied by Andre Stainless in Pulau Ujong, Singapore, 405 bars have good weldability and formability and are applicable to automotive, heat exchanger, and industrial furnace components. The addition of aluminum improves oxidation resistance and restricts grain growth. The alloy resists deformation and scaling up to 870°C and hence is well suited for thermal cycling applications. Andre Stainless provides these bars in certified mill test reports and in custom lengths, forms, and surface finishes.
SS 405 has 11.5–14.5% chromium, ≤0.08% carbon, ~0.3% aluminum, and trace nickel content. Low carbon and addition of aluminum minimize hardening on welding and maximize oxidation resistance. In the annealed condition, it has tensile strength of ~450 MPa, yield strength ~250 MPa, and elongation ~25–30%. The alloy is ferromagnetic and of moderate ductility. It maintains structural integrity at high temperatures and resists thermal fatigue. 405 hardens little with heat treatment but is sensitive to cold work. It is generally used where there is a need for moderate corrosion and good thermal performance at lower cost.

Corrosion-resistant Stainless Steel 405 T-Bars come in dimensions from 0.5″ x 0.5″ to 6″ x 6″. Ideal for structural applications and components requiring moderate oxidation resistance and high-temperature durability.
Stainless Steel 405 Bars are mostly utilized in automotive exhaust systems, mufflers, manifolds, and turbocharger housings because of their good heat resistance and formability. They are also utilized in annealing boxes, heat exchanger tubes, furnace components, and steam turbine parts. In industrial sectors, 405 bars are utilized where thermal stability and oxidation resistance are essential but where corrosion requirements are less demanding than in the case of austenitic grades. Their relatively low cost, ease of machining, and thermal cycling resistance make them suitable for use in process plant, HVAC equipment, and mechanically stressed mechanical hardware exposed to moderate heat.
