Stainless Steel 904L has 19–23% chromium, 23–28% nickel, 4–5% molybdenum, and up to 2% copper, with low carbon content (<0.02%). This special composition provides better resistance to sulfuric, phosphoric, and hydrochloric acids, chloride-induced pitting, and crevice corrosion. It has tensile strength of 490–710 MPa, yield strength approximately 220 MPa, and elongation ≥35%. The alloy is completely austenitic and non-magnetic with thermal cycling stability. 904L also has good weldability and formability, which makes it ideal for use in highly corrosive and structural environments.
