SS 415 Sheet and Plates are martensitic stainless steels that exhibit strength, hardness, and moderate corrosion resistance. SS 415 is made up of 12.5–14.5% chromium, 0.5–1.0% nickel, and a maximum of 0.15% carbon, giving it excellent hardness and wear resistance. Heat treatment changes its microstructure to martensite, hardening to 35–42 HRC. Average tensile strength is 750–950 MPa, with yield strength approximately 500–650 MPa. Elongation is 10–20% depending on tempering. SS 415 retains strength and toughness in impact and abrasion applications. It has average resistance to oxidation and corrosion, especially in low-moisture, non-chloride conditions, making it an affordable but dependable choice for most high-strength structural uses.
