SS 418 Sheet and Plates are martensitic stainless steels that offer superior wear resistance, moderate corrosion resistance, and good toughness. Provided by Andre Stainless on Pulau Ujong, Singapore, this grade caters to industries requiring hardenable steels for structural or high-load parts. SS 418 is particularly suited to applications where heat treatment is required for strength and hardness but still require some protection against corrosion. It has better strength than SS 410 and greater workability than certain higher-carbon martensitic grades. SS 418 has 12–14% chromium, 0.15–0.25% carbon, and negligible nickel. In a proper heat treatment, it develops the martensitic structure that can achieve tensile strength up to 700–900 MPa and yield strength about 500–600 MPa. Elongation values average 15%, and hardness can reach up to 38 HRC. Its wear resistance is superior to most basic stainless steels, and it maintains dimensional stability during machining and heat treatment. While not ideal for highly corrosive environments, SS 418 performs well in mildly oxidizing or water-exposed conditions where strength and moderate corrosion resistance are essential.

SS 418 Sheets and Plates find applications in pumps, impellers, shafts, and structural components in water treatment plants, oil and gas facilities, and power generation plants. Its hardness makes it suitable for cutlery, mechanical seals, wear pins, and bushings. In aerospace, it is used on secondary parts not exposed to chlorides. In marine environments, SS 418 can be used in hardware and tooling needing toughness but minimal saltwater exposure. It is also applied in manufacturing, machine components, and automotive parts under high mechanical stress, particularly where cost-effective martensitic behavior is more desirable than expensive austenitic or duplex options.
