SS 422 Sheet and Plates are martensitic stainless steels that are hardenable for excellent mechanical strength, corrosion resistance, and high-temperature service. Available from Andre Stainless in Singapore, these plates and sheets find excellent service in conditions that include heat, stress, and corrosion. This alloy is particularly desirable for applications where parts are exposed to thermal cycling and need dimensional stability. SS 422 provides improved creep and oxidation resistance to 650°C, which is highly beneficial in aerospace and power generation applications. Andre Stainless ensures that each SS 422 product is precision machined, traceable to international standards, for safety-critical or regulated industry usage.
SS 422 contains 11–13% chromium, 0.20–0.25% carbon, and 1.0–1.5% molybdenum, with minor silicon and manganese. After tempering and hardening, tensile strength is over 900 MPa, yield strength is 700 MPa, and hardness is usually 35–45 HRC. The alloy is well-balanced in terms of toughness and creep resistance at high temperatures. SS 422 martensitic structure has very good strength retention up to a temperature of 650°C. It is magnetic, provides moderate resistance to corrosion, and is resistant to oxidation and is used in high-load, high-temperature applications where regular stainless grades will lose their hardness and deform.
